While most CrossFit athletes aim to compete in the CrossFit Games in the future, it appears to be different for Sammy Moniz. She is focused on supporting her partner and Fittest Man in the World, Mat Fraser, in his continuing journey in CrossFit. Check out her story below.
An Introduction to Sammy Moniz, CrossFit Athlete

Who is Sammy Moniz?
Sammy Moniz is the woman behind the Fittest Man in the World. She cooks the dishes for her fiancé, Mathew Fraser. But, before she became Mat’s partner, she used to have a 9 to 5 job and trained and coached in different CrossFit gyms. She also enjoys cooking and uses it to relax after working the whole day. She normally has one hour between the time she gets home and the time she goes to bed.
Instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV, she cooks to relax. She would prepare dinner for the night or lunch the next day. It gave her something fun and enjoyable to look forward to at the end of the day. This fun activity became a passion that she started following food bloggers and read several cookbooks.
After she left her job and started living with Mat, she would cook the meals for him. Initially, she wouldn’t have a detailed recipe since she played it by ear when it came to adding the ingredients. She normally uses whatever was accessible at home at that time. But she later started writing the recipes to monitor the ingredients she used.
The recipes were not even specific with the number of teaspoons or tablespoons she used for each ingredient. Instead, she simply indicated the type of ingredients she used. This went on until she found that she was posting a lot of things about food and sharing pictures of the dishes on her personal page.
The first picture she made was a cornbread she sent to her sister-in-law. Since it was a marathon cooking day, all the tables were full of food and kitchen utensils. So, she placed the dish on a stool and took a picture of it. It was so random that her feet were a part of the frame.
This eventually became her signature when it came to the pictures of dishes she posts on the page. She uses natural light when taking pictures since she likes the way the food looks after taking a snapshot of them in natural light. This means she only shoots between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Feeding the Frasers
A friend later told Sammy to start a page with all the food she posted. So she thought of creating another Instagram page showing the dishes she created. Sammy basically used the Instagram page as her personal recipe book. The page had her creations as well as the recipes she got from different food bloggers. This allowed her to consistently create dishes whenever Mat asked her to cook something she previously made. This page later became Feeding the Frasers.
The pictures Sammy posts on the page are simplified. She does not include too many embellishments. She makes the food something that her followers can make at home. Despite this, she does not consider herself an authority on food. Sammy just gives her followers a snapshot of what they are eating at home.
Sammy and Nutrition
They focus on highly-nutritious food rather than processed, pre-packaged meals. Sammy aims to make everything from scratch as much as possible. For instance, while she uses salsa in cans or jars, she would rather make it herself if it’s possible.
Since sweets are not recommended if you’re living a healthy lifestyle, Sammy tries to make cookies that fit what she is doing. These cookies may be gluten-free or free of refined sugar. Substitute cooking may not result in dishes that are delicious. So, she would treat herself every once in a while but would eat treats moderately and make other healthy choices around these treats.
Whenever they travel, she would lower her expectations on the food they eat since she cannot bring everything she needs for the dishes. While she has her own tool kit of ingredients, it may not have all the things she needs for the dishes. She does try to replicate what she does at home with the ingredients available at their destination.
Mat and Sammy’s Cooking
For Mat Fraser, he considers Sammy’s cooking as the equivalent to his CrossFit career. In events, he normally attends as an athlete while Sammy attends as the influencer she currently is today. Since they did not really plan Sammy’s passion and what it is today, they will just wait for what happens in the future.
If it becomes something bigger than something fun for his fiancé to do, then he will support it. They may even have a studio kitchen for Sammy in their house in Vermont.
Mat also considers Feeding the Frasers Instagram page as his personal menu. All he needs to do is to go through all the pictures on the page and tell her what he wants. She would then check if the ingredients are available and work her magic. He added that everything posted on the page gets eaten.
Aside from ensuring Mat Fraser is provided with nutritious meals, Sammy Moniz also works with a team in managing some of the best CrossFit athletes in the world. Among the athletes they manage are Annie Thorisdottir, Katrin Davidsdottir, Laura Horvath, Brooke Wells, Pat Vellner, and Brent Fikowski.
While the team works with her fiancé, she does not work with him personally. Aside from the athletes, she also works with the brands the athletes represent.

While Sammy Moniz has not qualified for the CrossFit Games, she did join the CrossFit Open in 2016, 2017, and 2019. In addition to being the fiancé of the fittest man in the world, she also manages several CrossFit athletes.
CrossFit Diet and Nutrition Tips from Sammy Moniz
Even as Sammy Moniz focuses on managing some CrossFit athletes with a team, she does ensure the Fittest Man in the World is well-fed. Due to this, the tips you can get from her are mainly about what she does to ensure her fiancé has a proper meal every day.
#1: Have a Fruit
For Sammy, if you want to pack calories at home, you should have fruits in the house. Fruits provide quality calories in your diet. Due to this, she normally cuts up an apple for Mat to snack on.
#2: Be Smart To Avoid Wastage
To ensure she prepares unprocessed, nutritious food at home, Sammy shops two to three times a week. While she buys some staples in bulk, she only buys food she can cook within 48 hours to prevent spoilage. Moreover, she is also creative when it comes to leftovers. She creates something new from the leftovers.
#3: Learn Along The Way
Sammy Moniz does not consider herself an expert when it comes to cooking. This is one of the reasons why she follows food bloggers and reads cookbooks. She has learned a lot when it comes to combining different ingredients to make dishes taste better. While learning the different culinary theories is good, practice normally allows you to perfect the dishes you create.

For Sammy Moniz, nutrition is important. One of the most important meals of the day is breakfast since it sets the tone for the day. She ensures she has enough time to prepare the meal in the morning or work on it the night before. Most of the meals she prepares are designed to be frozen and reheated.
While she does eats a variety of dishes, she loves salads. So, her meals normally have vegetables or greens on them. Check out a typical meal of Sammy below:
Morning: Salad with eggs (she would mix greens and put an egg on top)
Lunch: Rice, vegetables, and meat
Dinner: Cooked vegetables, some starchy food, and meat

While Sammy Moniz has a personal Instagram account with over 101,000 followers, her second Instagram page, Feeding the Frasers, is the more popular among the two with over 292,000 followers. It started as a way for her to track the meals she made and was essentially her online cookbook. It became popular since it shows the meals she makes for her fiancé Mat Fraser.
